A Trip to the Apple Orchard
/We try to take a trip to the apple orchard each year. It's a fun way to get out of the city, and it's a great way to take advantage of the fall weather. I've also realized it is a fun way to chronicle Finn's growth. You can see photos from our trip to the orchard two years ago when Finn was just 6 months old, here. He was such a chunk.
For the last few years, we have gone to Carlson's Apple Orchard. They have a great little restaurant, and it is quiet and quaint. This year we decided to try a different orchard called Apple Jack Orchards. It is much bigger and has a lot more activities for kids. However, on the day we went, it was packed. They had attendants directing cars, and there were people everywhere. When we were leaving, the line of cars waiting to get to the orchard stretched down the road for a mile or more. So, obviously it is a popular place. We didn't take advantage of the activities because it was so busy, and we were pushing the timeframe a bit before Finn's nap. Finn loved seeing the sheep, goats, and chickens, though. He is still talking about the sheep.
The orchard had Haralson and Honeycrisp apples the day we were there, two of my favorites. The Honeycrisps were smaller than the ones at the grocery store, but they have turned out to be the perfect size for Finn to eat as a snack. Finn was very helpful in picking the apples from the trees. He thought it was great fun!
All in all, we had a wonderful time. Next year we will probably go back to Carlson's Apple Orchard because it is much more quaint and generally less busy, but it was nice to check this one out.
